(CONNECT) Sika, which claims to be a global leader in the area of specialty chemicals, has developed the proprietary Sika Carbon Compass. According to a press release, the measurement tool calculates the product carbon footprint (PCF) for the majority of the Sika portfolio - including corroborated data with regard to emissions from the supply chain, manufacturing processes, raw materials, packaging and transportation.

The methodology of the emissions calculator, which was verified by TÜV Rheinland in Germany, is based on international standards such as ISO 14067, the TfS PCF Guideline and the Catena-X Rulebook.

Customers benefit from more sustainable purchasing decisions and greater efficiency in relation to planning processes, according to the company. Automated PCF insights are said to simplify reporting and boost competitiveness in tenders for corporate clients, Sika states. The Carbon Compass also reportedly empowers customers to take a leading role in the growing legislative framework for sustainability, for example in terms of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) or the Construction Product Regulation (CPR).

“Our customers are seeking effective ways to advance their sustainability goals while creating positive impact. The Sika Carbon Compass provides a verified, science-based tool that enables informed decision making and collaboration across the value chain”, as Patricia Heidtman, Chief Innovation und Sustainability Officer at Sika, explains in the press release.

The compass is expected to play a key role in the implementation of Sika’s 2028 Strategy, which is based on the four pillars of Innovation & Sustainability, Acquisitions, People & Culture and Market Penetration.

The company, which is headquartered in Baar in the Swiss canton of Zug, employs more than 34,000 staff around the world and generated sales of 11.76 billion Swiss francs in 2024. ce/ja
