The two winners of Switzerland’s first Fair Fashion Award were selected at the Future Forum - Sustainable Textiles in Filzbach in the Swiss canton of Glarus on 29 October. In the ‘Emerging’ category, the jury chose Jungle Folk, while FTC Art of Cashmere World won the ‘Established’ category.
According to a statement, the jury paid particular attention to transparency, saying that it is the foundation for social justice and sustainability. “We were impressed by the social and ecological sustainability activities of Jungle Folk and FTC Cashmere,” jury member and founder of Product DNA, Robin Cornelius, is quoted as saying. “Jungle Folk works on an equal footing with small producers in Peru and Colombia and advises them on current fashion trends, cuts and fabrics. FTC Cashmere is present at all locations in its supply chain – including in-person – and implements a range of projects in the supply chain to improve the wellbeing of people and nature.”
Pauline Treis, founder of Jungle Folk, was particularly pleased with the emphasis on “our mutually enriching collaboration with our producers in Peru and Colombia. It has encouraged us in our work and we will take this with us for the future.” FTC Co-CEO Adrian Knezovic also feels encouraged by the award in terms of his company's commitment to sustainability. It shows “that we are on the right track”, he said.
The award is organized by Swiss Fair Trade, the umbrella organization of Fair Trade firms in Switzerland. The competition is made possible by the Amphora Foundation. Partners are Fairtrade Max Havelaar and Fashion Revolution Switzerland. ce/mm
