Freitag is the first company in Switzerland to have been awarded the Circular Globe label. This new tool for the circular economy was developed and launched by the Swiss Association for Quality and Management (SQS), based in Zollikofen in the canton of Bern, and Quality Austria, a limited company for training, certification and evaluation.
A thorough assessment process lets businesses know where they stand in terms of their efforts to comply with the principles of the circular economy. “We are proud and grateful that we were able to gain a famous name from the Swiss design scene in the form of FREITAG as the first customer for our assessment model”, comments Andri Bodmer, Head of Business Development and Marketing and responsible for Circular Globe at SQS, in a press release.
“Circular Globe serves as a compass for us, so that, step by step, we can align our business model even more consistently with the circular economy”, explains Bigna Salzmann, Circular Technologist at FREITAG. “Thanks to the assessment, we can systemize our journey to this endpoint across the company and better identify the areas in which there is the greatest potential to continuously improve our circular credentials”.
The company, which is managed by brothers Markus and Daniel Freitag has been making bags and accessories from recycled truck tarpaulins for almost 30 years. The company’s manifesto, which can be accessed via its website, carries the headline: “We think and act in cycles”.
