At the start of December, Lavie launched its new collection Aizome. The fashion brand owned by Balsiger Textil from Langenthal in the canton of Bern, Switzerland, linked up with Claudia Caviezel to develop the new collection of indigo-dyed kitchen towels, napkins, hand and bath towels, as detailed in a Lavie press release. The Swiss textile designer and artist learned the tradition of indigo dyeing in Japan.

Anybody interested in the Aizome collection can head down to Lavie’s showroom at Weststrasse 145 in Zurich at 5 p.m. on December 12, when a small celebration in honor of the new collection is being held in the presence of Claudia Caviezel. “I didn’t want to start with a fixed idea and make something that the technology wouldn’t allow”, as the textile artist explains in the press release. The whole concept of the collection began to take shape while Claudia Caviezel spent time in Gifu Prefecture in Japan. Aizome means indigo in Japanese, but at the same time also has the meaning of “dyed with love”, Lavie writes.

All items in the new collection are made from typical Japanese towels and cloths, i.e. double-sided terry cloth and four-ply muslin. They are available in the colorways of light and dark indigo, as well as in a combination of indigo and white. The towels are sized in line with typical Japanese dimensions. ce/hs
