St.Gallen - Textile editor Christian Fischbacher is currently showcasing a new textile collection Contemporary Persia at Salone del Mobile in Milan. This collection was a collaboration by the creative director Camilla Fischbacher with architect and designer Hadi Teherani. Both have Iranian heritage.

The textile company Christian Fischbacher is presenting its new Contemporary Persia collection at the Salone del Mobile in Milan. The curtain and upholstery fabrics interpret the unique diversity of Iran, its geographic and cultural richness in elegant and refined designs. They are the work of creative director Camilla Fischbacher from St.Gallen and the architect and designer Hadi Teherani, who lives in Hamburg. Both have Iranian heritage and were born in the country. The Milan show, located on Via del Carmine 9, is on until 12 June.

Appropriate Iranian names have been carefully chosen for the fabrics. For example, Roya for a flowing, earthy curtain fabric, meaning “beautiful dream” and Afsun to reflect a playful take on the art of calligraphy. Aramesh radiates as a material, with the word meaning tranquility, peace of mind and bliss. The patterns and structures of traditional brickwork inspired the fabric called Mitra.

As the company explains, this timeless collection reflects “the thrilling contrasts between tradition and the present, soft and vibrant colors, delicate and coarser structures, handicrafts and industrial production”. “Once we entered into a dialogue, we became aware of the enormous creative power that Iran represents, with its rich cultural heritage,” says Camilla Fischbacher. For Teherai, Contemporary Persia was “a unique journey to reflect both mine and Camilla’s visions together and translate this into a new form through fine textiles”.
