(CONNECT) An internationally famous artist ordered a luxury rug from Kramis Teppich Design AG for 20,000 Swiss francs and then rejected it after it had been made on the grounds that it was “not usable”, according to an article on the Blick news website. The luxury rug manufacturer from the canton of Lucerne has therefore launched a silent auction to make up for the financial loss of around 10,000 francs that remained after the artist’s up-front payment.
Kramis intends to cut the rug into 51 pieces, 20 of which are medium-sized and 30 small, as well as one unique piece, the so-called round tip. The starting price for the small pieces is 50 francs, the medium pieces start at 175 francs and the unique piece is available from 5,000 francs. The rug is currently still in one piece: “We would like to contact all those involved personally before we take this step,” Tim Kramis, marketing manager at the family business, told Blick. There is already great interest: “So far, 20 people have come forward who would like to purchase a piece of the rug,” says Kramis.
Anyone who makes a purchase will not only receive a piece of the rug, which was crafted over the course of two months, but also the name of the internationally renowned client whose withdrawal put the rug company in a predicament. If more than 10,000 Swiss francs are raised in the auction, the surplus will be donated to the Solothurn WQ Foundation, which supports people on their way back to work after illness or accident.
Kramis Teppich Design AG specializes in the luxury market of residential and commercial sectors. The company produces rugs from natural fibers and high-quality materials using the hand-tufting technique, which allows flexibility in size, shape, color and design. ce/ja
