OceanYarn is now also available in Germany. The Swiss Finest e-commerce platform has recently included ropes and cords made from plastic waste recovered from the oceans in its range, further details of which can be found in LinkedIn post from Marcel Meister. According to the CEO of Meister & Cie AG, the sustainable ropes and cords are “in good company with well-known traditional Swiss brands in the food, household, lifestyle and leisure sectors” at Swiss Finest.
With OceanYarn, the manufacturer of braided textiles from Rüegsau in the canton of Bern is seeking to play its part in cleaning up the oceans around the world, the company explains on the its website. Partner organizations such as #tide ocean SA recover plastic waste from the sea. The raw material is then prepared and processed into yarn at Meister in Switzerland, before rope and cord-based products are braided from this OceanYarn.
The plastic waste used by Meister & Cie comes mainly from the seas and coastal regions of islands in Southeast Asia. It is sorted, cleaned and shredded here before being sent to Switzerland. “The recycling of plastic waste is much more sustainable than its incineration”, OceanYarn writes on its website. The company also points out that the carbon footprint related to transporting the plastic is fully offset by the myclimate project.
