(CONNECT) The Relianz Group is committed to recycling ocean plastic. Over the past twelve months, the packaging group from the canton of Zurich, which specializes in the production of bags, has “significantly increased” the proportion of certified ocean plastic used in the production of its Big Bags, as Relianz writes in a press release. At present, the group’s ECO-ReBags comprise 30 to 50 percent certified ocean plastic.
In total, Relianz has incorporated 24 tons of GRS-certified PCR Level 2 ocean plastic in its Big Bags over the past twelve months. This represents a 30 percent increase in sustainable packaging production compared with the same period of the previous year, according to the press release. In terms of benefits for the customer, aspects such as the environmental friendliness of the Big Bags are highlighted alongside the improvement in their own personal carbon footprint by using the bags.
To source the certified ocean plastic, Relianz has partnered with tide ocean SA from Lengnau in the canton of Bern, Switzerland. With the #tide ocean material, the company offers a granulate for plastic injection molding. This is obtained from plastic waste collected in the Andaman Sea and further processed at a partner plant in Bangladesh.
Relianz is able to verify the origin and use of its ocean plastic through a CSI traceability certificate. “An increasing number of suppliers are talking about recycling, but it often remains unclear which materials are actually being used”, comments Andreas Engeler, Managing Director of the Relianz Group, in the press release. “We adopt a conscious focus on fully certified ocean plastic, thereby offering our customers a transparent, traceable and verifiably sustainable solution”, he concludes. ce/hs
