Mammut Sports Group acquired by Chinese company CPE

(CONNECT) Mammut Sports Group AG is being sold to the Chinese investment company CPE. According to a statement, CPE has signed a corresponding agreement to acquire the mountain sports company founded in 1862 from the current owners Jacobs Capital.

In 2021, the Zurich-based investment firm Jacobs Capital, which at that point was known as Jacobs Holding AG, struck a deal to acquire Mammut. In 2025, the Jacobs family, whose wealth is tied to the Jacobs coffee brand, officially merged the holding company and its family office, Telemos Capital, into Jacobs Capital, which is also headquartered in Zurich.

Under the ownership of Jacobs Capital and the leadership of the Mammut management team, the Swiss mountain sports brand has, as the statement explains, “strengthened its product offering across apparel, footwear, and hardware, drove continuous technical innovation and sharpened its brand positioning as the leading mountain performance brand”.

Total revenues have grown at a double-digit compound annual growth rate, with more than half of sales now generated outside of Europe. Philippe Jacobs, who together with his brother Nicolas is Co-Chairman of Jacobs Capital, describes himself as “immensely proud” of the fact that “this transformation has been achieved while protecting the authenticity, technical excellence and Swiss heritage that make Mammut unique”.

Today, Mammut is “stronger, financially and operationally, and more globally relevant than ever before”, comments Mammut's CEO Heiko Schäfer. CPE now intends to build on these foundations and drive the company’s international expansion, with an emphasis in this regard on the Asia-Pacific region and North America. “It is both a privilege and a responsibility to become the next steward of Mammut”, states Mark Mao, Managing Director of CPE.

The headquarters, including the core innovation, design and development functions, will remain “firmly anchored in Seon/Lenzburg”, the statement explains. CEO Schäfer and the existing management team will also continue to lead the company. ce/mm
