Customers of Freitag lab.ag can now fulfil their wildest bag dreams, as the Zurich design company specializing in the making of sustainable bags, accessories and clothes has revealed in a press release. The one-off pieces made from used truck tarpaulin, bicycle inner tubes, straps and buckles can be designed online at the cutting table. Freitag writes that customers can create their very own designs “to suit your own taste”.
The Freitag story began back in the early 1990s, when brothers Markus and Daniel Freitag came up with the concept of making robust and practical bags from used truck tarpaulins and other discarded materials. The first Freitag prototype of the Messenger Bag F13 TOP CAT is now on display in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, as Freitag writes in its history.
Today, Freitag not only makes bags, but also accessories from recycled materials and clothing from a biodegradable textile created by the company. “We think and act in cycles” is the headline of the company manifest in which Freitag pleas “for conscious, meaningful consumption”. With products and working practices based on the principles of a circular economy, Freitag is playing its part.
