Technology company HeiQ, located in Schlieren in the canton of Zurich, is teaming up with German Metzingen-based fashion house Hugo Boss to present the new AeoniQ polo shirt at the Boss Open tennis tournament in Stuttgart. According to a press release, the polo shirt is made from 87% HeiQ AeoniQ, an innovative cellulosic yarn derived from certified wood pulp, with performance attributes rivaling polyester fabrics.

The use of this material helps to protect the oceans from microfiber pollution generated by synthetic fibers. HeiQ and Hugo Boss AG agreed a strategic partnership in February 2022.

The AeoniQ polo shirt received the ISPO Award 2023 for outdoor and sports clothing at the ISPO trade fair, which was held in Munich from June 4 to 6. The HeiQ press release states that the innovative polo shirt is manufactured in Europe. Developed together with Hugo Boss, it is “as disruptive as its cellulose fibers”. The shirt is available to buy at the Boss pop-up store and online during the Boss Open tennis tournament, which will run until June 18.

“With the new BOSS x HeiQ AeoniQ polo shirt, we offer a game-changing solution that merges innovation, timeless fashion, performance, and environmental consciousness,” says Carlo Centonze, CEO of HeiQ.

HeiQ is a spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH). It is based in IJZ, Schlieren’s center for innovation and start-ups, and is a member of Start Smart Schlieren. ce/gba
