According to a press release, Mammut is seeking to provide transparency with its 2021 Responsibility Report with regard to the company’s efforts to achieve measurable positive changes. The company has been seeking to overcome challenges in the international value chain since 2006 with targeted partnerships and external certifiers. As a member of associations and other working groups, Mammut is involved in the Swiss Glacier Initiative and the CO2 bill, for example. Mammut is also a member of the swisscleantech business association and supports the Protect Our Winters and ClimbAid initiatives.
By signing the UN Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action, Mammut has committed to achieving net zero by 2050. By 2030, greenhouse gas emissions are to be halved compared with 2018, with the internal “We care” concept setting guidelines and goals to achieve this aim. This includes providing renewable energy to supplier factories as well as the optimization of global product transport, the longevity and repairability of the products and the development of circular business models.
Customers from Switzerland, the EU, North America and Japan can send damaged items to one of the Mammut workshops for repair. In 2020, Mammut launched the Close the Loop pilot project for which old climbing ropes are collected in cooperation with Protect Our Winters and climbing gyms. These are then recycled and mainly processed into t-shirts. This program is now to be established in 14 other European countries. The company is presently working on the development of a technology for reusing the yarns in new ropes, which has not been possible up to now.
