Zurich - Six textile brands from Switzerland will be demonstrating how zero waste products can be realized during Zurich Design Weeks from August 31 to September 9. Brands including Freitag, Qwstion, Neumühle, Lavie, the Blue suit and Stuned will be represented at the Design for Circularity exhibition.
The Design for Circularity exhibition is set to take place during Zurich Design Weeks, when Swiss textile producers will offer insights into their processes. They are all considered pioneers as far as thinking about textiles products on a holistic basis is concerned. In this sense, the companies take the entire lifecycle of their products into consideration right from the start of the process so that they do not simply end up becoming waste. The brands Freitag, Qwstion, Neumühle, Lavie, the Blue suit and Stuned will be demonstrating how their respective zero waste concepts can be implemented at a temporary warehouse facility in District 4, Zurich, from August 31 to September 9.
The exhibition is part of the Circular Circuit program. Showrooms and talks in connection with the Zurich Design Weeks are also focused on this special program.
The bag manufacturers Freitag, Qwstion and Stuned all hail from the city or canton of Zurich. Moreover, they have all developed differing strategies on the journey to implementing fully circular products. The Neumühle brand, likewise based in Zurich, manufactures and sells durable, recyclable clothing from just a single family of materials. Lavie from Langenthal in the canton of Bern uses natural materials to manufacture home textiles. The company also actively supports environmental initiatives and dispatches orders in recycled PET bags via climate-neutral shipping processes. Finally, the Blue suit from Kreuzlingen in the canton of Thurgau has designed, among other products, the first Cradle to Cradle denim collection.
In hosting this exhibition, the organizers are also keen to point out that the potential of the circular economy is now being recognized by politicians. In the fall of 2022, 89 percent of the electorate in the canton of Zurich agreed to a proposal to anchor the circular economy in law. The city of Zurich has also signed up to the global Circular Cities initiative. ce/mm
