Mammut plans to expand its repair service, which was first set up in 1992. The globally active mountaineering outfitter based in Seon in the canton of Aargau stated in a press release that around 16,000 products are repaired each year at its own repair shops and through a network of local workshops and third-party providers. This figure is expected to continuously increase as a result of anchoring repairability within the design process and by expanding the network of service partners. Paul Cosgrove, Chief Product Officer at Mammut, commented in the press release: “At the core of our design philosophy lies the belief in creating innovative gear that performs at its best in the outdoors with the least possible impact on the environment and is optimized for the circular economy.”

At the same time, the company plans to promote repairs instead of new purchases through proactive communication. Adrian Huber, Head of Corporate Responsibility at Mammut, stated: “For the circular economy to become suitable for the masses, we as a company need to raise awareness, normalize and mobilize.” For this to work, he believes that the company must address not only customers but also all stakeholders, adding: “Only through widespread adoption of circular practices, such as repairs, can we truly realize the positive impact we promote.” ce/hs
