Swiss Fair Trade and the Amphora Foundation, both based in Basel, are launching the Fair Fashion Award in Switzerland. Swiss Fair Trade, an association for fair trade organizations in Switzerland, created the Fair Fashion Award to put the spotlight on companies leading the way in fair fashion, in the hope of inspiring other companies to act similarly. This year there is a focus on transparency: “Only by taking a transparent approach can we achieve true sustainability in the supply chain, fair working conditions and environmentally friendly production,” says Philipp Scheidiger, Managing Director of Swiss Fair Trade, in a press release.

The prize money of 20,000 francs for each of the two winning projects is provided by the Amphora Foundation, which supports organizations in Switzerland that are seeking to change consumption and production patterns with an ecological and social approach.

Applicants can put themselves forward for the award up to June 30. Any organizations, companies or projects that are active in Switzerland and helping to bring about a fair textile industry are eligible to apply, in either the emerging or established category. The Fair Fashion Award will be presented on October 29 at the Zukunftsforum Nachhaltige Textilien (future forum for sustainable textiles) in Glarus Nord. “The Fair Fashion Award aims to promote sustainable innovations in the textile industry that prioritize the interests of people and nature,” says Gabriella Burkard, President of Amphora. She adds that responsible use of resources is essential for a sustainable future in the textile industry. ce/js
