For the first time, lavie has made bed linen out of fully traceable organic cotton. Before now, the manufacturer from Langenthal in the canton of Bern has sustainably and fairly produced home textiles such as toweling and socks from organic cotton. Its bed linen Imani has now been launched on the market.
“Our vision is for our whole bedding range to be made from traceable organic cotton as soon as possible, creating even more trust in this segment with transparent processes and traceability,” explained lavie founder Oliver Balsiger in a press release. Imani is the first test product, with a limited number produced. “We are very pleased with the result and are currently reviewing other possibilities.”
The thread woven at lavie’s mill in Portugal is made using organic cotton grown by organic farmers in villages in central Tanzania. Their incomes are reportedly 15 percent higher than the regional market price. The deseeded cotton fiber is sent to Khargone in India for processing into thread. From there, it is shipped to Rotterdam and then onwards to Portugal. mm
