Kramis Teppich Design reveals the secrets behind hand tufting

The carpet manufacturer Kramis from Altbüron in the canton of Lucerne has decided to lift the lid on its expertise in the area of hand tufting. This craft, in which Kramis specializes, “climbed the trend mountain and went viral” during the pandemic, according to comments made by marketing manager Tim Kramis in a press release, who adds that the trend remains relevant today. As a result, “thanks to this hype”, the company has built up a substantial reach on social media channels, with 120,000 followers on Instagram, and more than 50,000 followers on YouTube and TikTok respectively.

Suddenly, people the world over were looking to make their own carpets and sell them on, Kramis states. During this time, the company was inundated with requests for information from its global fanbase on the materials used, machinery and the technology itself. At first, the company opted not to reveal its secrets: “After all, there is more than 40 years of experience behind our craft, which was picked up by my father Felix Kramis over this time”.

After numerous discussions, the family in charge of running the business changed their minds, safe in that knowledge that they offer transparency and have nothing to hide. In return for a fee, the fan community is now getting what it wanted in the form of audiovisual Tufting Tutorials. “The high demand has quite literally forced us to do something. Since then, we have had a second business focus and all of a sudden our target group went global”, the company explains in the press release.

The first such offering has now been published. This is an e-book entitled Materials & Tools, “which lists all of the materials and tools that we use to make our carpets”. Next up is a video course for which the focus will be on learning how to “produce professional hand-tufted carpets from A to Z”. ce/mm
