Following a test procedure, Zentralwascherei Zürich AG (ZWZ) has been certified in accordance with the OEKO-TEX STeP criteria. The industrial laundry company based in the Greater Zurich Area has been recognized for its credible and committed approach to sustainability, further details of which can be found in a press release issued by the certification organization Testex. ZWZ specializes in washing, drying and sorting professional laundry and laundry items for the largest hospitals in the region. A high degree of automation and state-of-the-art machinery ensure that the laundry company is highly efficient in its work, with roughly 40 tons of laundry washed and dried every day. The modern machine park facilitates resource-saving consumption and is partly powered by electricity generated by the company’s own photovoltaic system, which is installed across an area of 2,900 square meters, according to the press release. ZWZ has implemented heat recovery processes to reduce natural gas consumption, while the company also strives to keep as much water as possible in cycles, meaning that this previous resource is also used sparingly.

ZWZ, which has already been certified in accordance with the European standards ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, laid the foundations for this latest certification with its sustainable business operations. In fact, ZWZ is the world’s first industrial laundry to be certified according to OEKO-TEX STeP.
