Lavie is supporting the Ghana-based rePATRN LTD. The foundation helps collect and recycle polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles in Ghana. The bottles collected are processed into bales and exported, as Lavie explains on its website. The PET obtained can then be processed into new products “for the textiles industry, for example”.
The brand, which is part of Balsiger Textil AG from Langenthal in the canton of Bern, has committed to donating a fixed sum of money to rePATRN for each product it sells. The foundation uses the funds to promote the collection of PET bottles and fair remuneration for the collectors. Last year, lavie collected the equivalent of almost 5 million bottles.
RePATRN is not the only project being supported by the Bern-based textiles brand. “At lavie, there is a real emphasis on sustainability”, according to the company’s explanation of its values and commitment on its website. Further projects in which lavie is involved highlighted here include the Swiss Summit Foundation and 1% for the Planet program. Moreover, lavie is certified in accordance with the Global Organic Textile Standard and also has an eye on sustainability when it comes to shipping its products. Where possible, orders are shipped in reusable bags made from recycled PET by Kickbag. Packages delivered by Swiss Post are also completed on a climate-neutral basis. hs
