DillySocks is launching its first fully biodegradable collection according to a press release from the sock manufacturer based in Zurich, Switzerland. The D-Compose series comprises 98 percent organic cotton, 1 percent naNea, a fiber created by OceanSafe, and 1 percent Roica elastane. Both synthetic materials have reportedly been developed so that they can return to the natural environment after use.
After wearing, the socks are fully compostable within six weeks with optimal environmental conditions. According to the manufacture, the small quantities of synthetic material do not leave behind any harmful substances or microplastics. This is why the product as well as the fibers used for it have received Cradle to Cradle Certified Gold certification, which confirms that they are in line with the circular economy principle. The company’s founders, Sean Pfister and Fabian Knup, have invested more than three years of development work in reaching this certification. The company press release explains: “To date no material has performed in the same way as the revolutionary material used for the D-Compose socks.” A sum of 500,000 euros was invested to achieve this.
The D-Compose socks are available in six different colors as well as four different size ranges. They can be purchased through retail as well as online at DillySocks. The company is holding a competition to celebrate the new collection’s launch, with prizes of socks from the collection and equivalent vouchers as well as a composter.
Pfister and Knup now hope to perform further educational work on the subject of the circular economy and are also already planning to expand the product range with the addition of short socks. ce/ww
