B&B Italia has launched a special edition of the Camaleonda sofa system with a new cover fabric by British fashion designer Stella McCartney. According to a B&B press release, the S-Wave monogram fabric is based on the naNea yarn produced by OceanSafe. Under the naNea brand, the Bern-based start-up produces and distributes collections with biodegradable, synthetic textile fibers.

OceanSafe describes itself as a “textile technology company for circular, biodegradable and toxin-free textiles”. It aims to use technology to help brands make circular products, and to offer a sustainable replacement product to conventional polyester and cotton.

This special edition of the modular sofa system by Mario Bellini is the result of a partnership between B&B Italia and Stella McCartney. This is the second partnership between "the British conscious luxury pioneer and the Italian design house”, explains the press release. Camaleonda is made almost entirely of sustainable materials and encapsulates the nature-positive visions of both brands.

According to the press release, the S-Wave fabric is available in a range of colors. The yarn used to make it is Cradle to Cradle Certified Gold and does not contain harmful substances. It does not shed persistent microplastics into the environment but still has the same textile properties as conventional materials.

The new edition of the designer sofa will be available worldwide under the name Stella McCartney x B&B Italia Camaleonda at B&B Italia flagship, mono and multi-brand stores. Online sales will be available in the next few months, starting with the U.S. market. ce/heg
