Sun Chemical is the first pigment manufacturer to receive the highest OEKO-TEX certification

Sun Chemical has completed the certification of its colorants for textile fibers at Zurich-based company TESTEX, according to a press release. This means that the leading global producer of printing inks, printing products and pigments now has the OEKO-TEX ECO PASSPORT certification. TESTEX developed the basic concept of the ECO PASSPORT, one of seven different OEKO-TEX certificates, at the start of the 1990s. In a video produced by TESTEX as a case study, Dr Paul Wallace, Technology, Regulatory & IP Manager at Sun Chemicals, affirms that it is an ideal marketing tool for manufacturers and retailers of textile and leather chemicals.

This certification means that Sun Chemicals also has ZDHC (Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals) Level 3 accreditation, the highest level possible. It is awarded by the Amsterdam-based ZDHC Foundation, which ensures that hazardous chemicals are eliminated from the textile and apparel value chains.

According to Dr Christof Kujat, Global Head Industry Segment Plastics, Color Materials at Sun Chemical, Sun Chemical is the first pigment manufacturer worldwide to achieve this level of certification. This demonstrates “Sun Chemical’s dedication to environmental progress” and represents “the first of many future certifications to advance the sustainability of our products and the markets we service.”

Sun Chemical is part of the Japanese company DIC Corporation. Its headquarters are in Parsippany in the U.S. state of New Jersey and its Swiss office is in Morges, in the canton of Vaud.
