Carpets not only absorb sounds and bind dust particles, but also retain heat, according to a press release issued by Tisca Tischhauser AG. The company based in Bühler in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden cites scientific studies in the press release, according to which the room temperature can be set 2 degrees Celsius lower in carpeted rooms versus those with hard flooring while offering the same level of comfort. The material and construction of the carpet are decisive factors that determine its efficacy as a heat barrier.

Tisca has calculated a saving of 12 to 15 percent in heating costs for its own carpets made of pure new wool. “The generous use of modern new wool and the special pile construction give them excellent heat-insulating properties” the company explains in the press release. This allows the room temperature to be reduced by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius, also because warmth does not escape the body through the feet. “Textiles turn rooms into living spaces” is the company’s motto.

Founded back in 1940, the family company has since committed to expanding the potential uses of textiles. Tisca manufactures the majority of its products, which are used in the home, in transport applications, sport and for decorative items, in Switzerland. The company is now in the third generation of management under Andreas, Matthias and Nick Tischhauser, and boasts several foreign subsidiaries in addition to its headquarters in Bühler.
