(CONNECT) OceanSafe, a company based in Bern, has announced a new partnership with the Lenzing Group from Austria. As detailed in a press release, the two companies will strive to develop recyclable yarns for sustainable textiles. For this purpose, the biodegradable polyester naNea developed by Ocean Safe will be woven with the TENCEL fibers from Lenzing.
NaNea serves as a replacement for conventional polyester and, according to the information, performs just as well. OceanSafe’s polyester is non-ecotoxic and represents the world’s first synthetic textile material with a Cradle to Cradle Gold certification. TENCEL, a lyocell fiber derived from sustainable wood sources, is biodegradable and compostable.
The collaboration aims to facilitate the development of products ranging from clothing and sports apparel all the way through to footwear as well. ce/ww
