(CONNECT) Fischbacher 1819 is presenting the complete Ancient Memories collection at Milan Design Week, which is taking place until April 13. The textile manufacturer unveiled the first part of the collection in January 2025. The textile project was created by the brand's creative director, Camilla D. Fischbacher, in collaboration with the Dutch designer Marcel Wanders and textile artist Caterina Roppo.
The result, according to a statement by Fischbacher 1819, "goes beyond the creation of new textiles; it questions the value of tradition and explores its potential for reinvention". The team was also interested in materials that are not only enduring and timeless, but carry the weight of a past worth preserving, it writes.
The foundations of this approach included research to find the right plant-based fibers, as well the reuse and reinterpretation of materials. According to the statement, it is no coincidence that Ancient Memories developed around the ancient, resilient and sustainable hemp fiber. The ultimate combination of natural and plant fibers has resulted in unusual textures.
The Ancient Memories presentation in Milan is accompanied by Caterina Roppo's solo exhibition entitled Everybody Has Pain Somewhere. Another part of the exhibition space is dedicated to the dialog between art and design through a video installation by the Dubai-based artist Rashed Qurwash. ce/mm
