Kramis unveils first rug made from Swiss virgin wool and linen

(CONNECT) Kramis Teppich Design AG has launched the Swisscraft collection. It is the company's first rug collection made from 100 per cent Swiss virgin wool and linen, and marks “the starting signal for a new era”, according to Kramis’ description of Swisscraft. At a time when everything can no longer cost anything, Kramis says it is consciously focusing on lasting values: “high-quality materials, careful craftsmanship, resource-saving processes and a design that is equally modern and timeless.”

The new wool from Swiss farms is sorted at Spycher Handwerk AG in Huttwil in the canton of Bern. The hand sorters only select virgin wool of the same quality for the durable carpets in the Swisscraft collection, writes Kramis. Once the new wool has been sorted and washed, it is transported literally across the road to the wool spinning mill, where it is spun into thread specialized for rugs.

For the linen, SwissFlax roasts flax from 100 per cent Swiss cultivation, before pressing it into round bales for further processing. As there are no suitable facilities in Switzerland, companies in other European countries open and spin the fibers industrially, explains Kramis.

Next, Färberei Probst in the Emmental dyes the new wool and linen. According to Kramis, the yarn is stored there raw so that only the required quantity is dyed, thus avoiding overproduction.

Finally, the yarn is made into rugs in the Kramis carpet manufactory. Each thread is tufted into the backing fabric by hand, line by line, and finished by hand. The rugs in the collection are available in three shapes – Albula, Furka and Umbrail – and in the three colorways of Morning Dew, Midday Blossom and Evening Star. ce/mm
