Zurich - The Swiss company FREITAG has brought a new shoulder bag to market. The Mono[PA6] Musette consists of just one material, meaning it can be recycled whole. It was originally an integral part of the Mono[PA6] backpack launched in 2024 and weighs just 125 grams.

(CONNECT) The removable external outer bag of FREITAG’s Mono[PA6] backpack can now be purchased separately. According to an announcement from the bag manufacturer based in Zurich, similar to the backpack, all 14 components of the Mono[PA6] Musette consist of one single material. This is polyamide 6, otherwise known as nylon. This means that the bag can be shredded whole at the end of its life before being melted down and processed into a PA6 granulate. The company illustrates in a video how it wants to close the material loops with products like the musette that follow a circular design principle from the start.

FREITAG describes a three-layer, water-repellent fabric as the central innovation. It developed this in collaboration with a Taiwanese partner from the textile industry. The innovative material was reportedly designed in such a way as to avoid the usual coatings made of other materials.

The small, minimalist crossbody bag can be worn over the shoulder or across the body and weighs just 125 grams. The foldout bottom and shoulder strap with adjustable cord provide further flexibility.

FREITAG’s repair service ensures that this bag can be used as long as possible until the end of its lifecycle. Ultimately, it can be returned via the company’s take-back service. FREITAG states in the announcement: “But the circularity principle can only work if customers use their products for a long time, take good care of them, and have them repaired when necessary. And, most importantly, return them to FREITAG when the time comes.” ce/mm
