The Board of Directors of Mammut Sports Group AG, the outdoor apparel manufacturing firm based in Seon in the canton of Aargau, has appointed Heiko Schäfer as new Group CEO. From September 1, 2022, the German business manager will be tasked with leading the expansion of Mammut as a leading mountaineering brand and strengthening the company’s global positioning, further details of which can be found in a press release.
Over the past two years, Schäfer has worked for Hugo Boss in the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO), where he was tasked with stabilizing the company during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, he drove forward the transformation of Hugo Boss in the direction of increased digitization and sustainability.
Schäfer brings with him a wealth of experience from the sports equipment segment on account of his long-standing working relationship with the Adidas Group earlier in his career. “I am extremely excited to return to the sporting goods world, joining the most iconic outdoor brand in Europe”, explains Schäfer in the press release. Together with his team, he will seek to make “the brand even more desirable and accessible to mountain sports enthusiasts”.
Schäfer is the successor to Greg Nieuwenhuys, who has led Mammut since September 2021 as interim Executive Chairman. Nieuwenhuys is set to remain with the Company as Chairman of the Board. “Over the past months, we have prepared Mammut for its next phase of growth. I am proud of the passion demonstrated by Mammut colleagues around the globe”, comments Nieuwenhuys in the press release.
