Remei India will in future promote the cultivation of moringa in addition to the cultivation and fair trade of organic cotton. The plant, which is commonly referred to as a miracle tree or even the “Tree of Life”, offers farmers another mainstay crop for increased income and security, further details of which can be found in a press release issued by Remei.
The roots, leaves, fruit and seeds of the Moringa tree contain a rare, high-quality mix of beneficial ingredients, including 25 times more iron than spinach and 17 times more calcium than milk. Moringa powder, tea and oil are also used in Ayurvedic medicine.
According to the press release, a group of 65 farmers and employees from Remei India, inspired by the great interest of cooperating farmers in moringa cultivation, visited a moringa farm in Gujurat, a state located on the western coast of India. Here, they found out all about the risks and dangers associated with the cultivation of this crop.
Remei founder and organic cotton pioneer Patrick Hohmann introduced the concept of all-holder value into the corporate philosophy. This represents a way of balancing the “financial, human and ecological requirements” as part of a way of operating the business “to create value for everyone involved in the production process that can be distributed fairly”.
Experiments with organic farming initiated in the early 1990s together with Indian contract farmers quickly made Remei the global market leader for organic cotton. In 2020, Hohmann completed the integration of Remei India, formerly bioRe India Ltd., into the Remei Group.
