Uster Technologies, a company that specializes in the quality control of textiles, exclusively uses electricity generated from 100 percent renewable energy sources at its headquarters in Uster in the canton of Zurich, further details of which can be found in a LinkedIn post.
An internal awareness campaign has resulted in a reduction in energy consumption. “Staff increasingly follow the guidelines on saving energy at their workplace”, comments Daniel Schlegel, Manager Logistics at Uster Technologies in Switzerland. Schlegel also offers some handy hints as to how employees can save energy in just a few simple steps: for example, by shutting down a PC or laptop at the end of the day instead of leaving it in standby mode, while extra energy savings can likewise be generated by reducing the screen brightness and ambient lighting.
The awareness campaign, which was led by the company’s management, also dealt with ways to save energy through smart lighting and heating. According to Schlegel, the company is on the right path to more sustainable operations: “We measure and analyze our energy consumption to learn for further improvements”.
Uster Technologies published a Sustainability Bulletin for sustainable operations in the textiles industry in November 2023. This is intended to provide practical tips and specific industry knowledge that apply to all areas of the textile value chain. In particular, yarn manufacturers should be informed about which recycled materials they can use in the production of their fibers. ce/gba
