(CONNECT) QWSTION is offering a new subscription model for its bags: Borrowed bags can be exchanged at any time for a different style that better fits in terms of size or color, depending on your preferences at that moment in time. The Zurich-based design studio charges a monthly fee of 12 Swiss francs for this.
“With ReQWSTION, we invite you to scrutinize ownership by offering the possibility of trying out access instead”, the company writes in a press release. Moreover, this concept is seen as “a milestone on our journey to full circularity. By giving pre-used (and certainly pre-loved) bags a new purpose, we can prolong their life, while ensuring that their materials and parts can contribute to new cycles of use once their original function has ended”.
For the majority of everyday objects, there is at present “no sensible solution” for the end of their life cycle. With this situation in mind, back in 2008 QWSTION began to call into question the norms dictating how things are designed, manufactured and used in order to develop better approaches.
“QWSTION is our platform for experimentation, to find and develop new solutions that push boundaries”, the company explains further. “Right from the start, the end is at the forefront of our minds”. This has reportedly also led to the company pursuing a plastic-free, plant-based approach when it comes to manufacturing its bags and everyday objects, for example on the basis of the Cradle to Cradle-certified material Bananatex. ce/mm
