(CONNECT) The Lausanne-based company Mover Plastic-Free Sportswear is arranging a public panel discussion and film premiere for the documentary “Plastic People” in conjunction with the Plastic Pollution Coalition (PPC) from Berkeley in the US State of California and EA For Impact, a research organization also based in Lausanne. The event, which takes the subject of microplastics as its central theme, is set to take place at the cultural center Plateforme 10 in Lausanne on August 7. It is being held in parallel with the resumption of the fifth round of negotiations on a global plastics agreement in Geneva, with the aim of raising awareness about the plastic pollution crisis and presenting alternatives that prioritize human and environmental health. Mover, PPC and EA for Impact are joining thousands of organizations, companies and member states in calling for an end to our society’s dependency on plastic.
Doors to the event open at 8:30 p.m., with the panel discussion slated to start at 9 p.m. This will cover topics such as the impact of microplastics and their associated chemicals on human health, corporate greenwashing, and the term bioplastics. It will also address the reasons why plastics were never actually designed to be recycled in the first place and how business solutions could support a future in which plastic pollution is a thing of the past.
Panelists taking part in the discussion include David Azoulay, managing director of the Center for International Environmental Law, Dr. Sedat Gündoğdu, a microplastics researcher from Çukurova University in Türkiye and scientific consultant at the Plastic Pollution Coalition, as well as Dr. Jane Muncke, managing director and Chief Scientific Officer of the Food Packaging Forum.
This will be followed at 9.45 pm by an open-air screening of the 90-minute documentary film “Plastic People”, which examines the mounting evidence of microplastics having entered the human body. ce/nta
