(CONNECT) TreeTex, a textile fiber developed by the Zurich-based fashion label Neumühle, has been nominated for the Design Prize Switzerland 2025. As detailed in a press release, Neumühle’s product has been included in the Top 10 nominated for the award in the Circular Design category. The Design Prize Switzerland 2025 is expected to be awarded across a total of seven categories, with the winners set be presented on November 7.
TreeTex is a textile fiber made from local wood and damaged wood sourced from forests in and around Zurich. The Zurich-based fashion label developed this fiber to promote the regional circular economy in an attempt to avoid expensive textile fiber imports. According to the press release, approximately 1.8 million cubic meters of wood remain unused in Switzerland every year. The production of TreeTex underscores Neumühle’s commitment to sustainability and the circular economy.
Neumühle states on its website that it has been “breaking new ground in the textile industry in terms of sustainability, innovation and design” since being founded in 2019. Neumühle’s journey towards a sustainable textile industry also involves collecting worn-out shirts for the purpose of recycling. ce/ww
