With the publication of the Roadmap 2035, Fabric Loop is presenting, for the first time, a joint roadmap for establishing a functioning circular economy for textiles in Switzerland. It sets out the legal, organisational and operational steps required by 2035 to establish a nationwide circular system. At the heart of the plan are four ambitious targets for 2035: 100% sorting of textiles collected in Switzerland, 60% transparent reuse and recycling (of which 20% is fibre-to-fibre recycling), 0% landfill worldwide, and annual reporting on financial and material flows.

The Fabric Loop industry solution was launched by Swiss Textiles. This is because the transition to a circular textile economy can only be achieved through joint efforts. What began as an initiative by the association has developed into a broadly supported platform in which companies, collection organisations, public authorities and other stakeholders are working together on a nationwide solution.

From the outset, numerous Swiss Textiles member companies have been actively involved. Others have joined the process as it has progressed. This growing commitment shows that the industry is ready to take responsibility and play an active role in shaping the transition. After all, an efficient and long-term viable circular system can only be created if as many market participants as possible are involved.

The roadmap is the result of a broad-based multi-stakeholder process. It outlines the key stages on the path to the new system – from establishing the legal and organisational foundations through to gradual implementation and scaling up. At the same time, it provides clarity on the next steps in the development process and the roles of the various stakeholders.

For Swiss Textiles, one thing is clear: the success of Fabric Loop depends as much on broad participation from the industry as it does on the right political framework. That is why we are actively involved in the political process surrounding the implementation of the Sauter motion and are campaigning for a practical legal framework, so that all market participants take equal responsibility for the financing and implementation of a functioning textile circular economy. At the same time, we are continuing to work on attracting more companies to Fabric Loop and strengthening our joint path towards a circular textile economy.
