(CONNECT) The jury of this year’s Fair Fashion Award has whittled down the 26 nominees to select seven finalists, as detailed in a press release issued by Swiss Fair Trade. The focus topic of this year’s competition is the circular economy. In the Established category, a total of three finalists have been selected: the outdoor clothing manufacturer Mammut from Seon in the canton of Aargau, the St.Gallen-based Säntis Textiles, which produces fibers, yarns and fabric, and the outdoor retailer Transa Backpacking AG from Zurich.
In total, four companies have been selected in the “Emerging” category. These include Neumühle and Circular Clothing, both of which hail from Zurich. The cooperative Circular Clothing makes Cradle to Cradle certified materials and supply chains available to small labels. Neumühle designs mono-collections. The fashion companies Muntagnard from Zernez in the canton of Graubünden and the Bern-based Rework have also been chosen as finalists after impressing the jury with their circular economy concepts.
“The 7 circular solutions demonstrate passion, conviction and a willingness to rethink textiles in relation to the circular economy – as a counter-proposal to cheap fashion that exploits natural resources”, as Sonja Gehrig, a member of the expert jury and Head of Circular Economy and Sustainable Procurement at the City of Zurich, comments in the press release.
The respective winners are to be presented with their awards on November 25, when Swiss Textiles is organizing its Innovation Day at Technopark Zurich. The award ceremony will also take place on this date. ce/jh
