BMW has unveiled a unique car inspired by supermodel Naomi Campbell at the Cannes Film Festival. The BMW XM MYSTIQUE ALLURE represents a “symbiosis between automotive and high fashion”, as BMW writes in a corresponding press release. The car, a one-off show car that is not available for purchase, has been “tailored for the most radiant runway of the year – the red carpet of Cannes Film Festival – and supermodel Naomi Campbell’s appearance on it”, according to the press release.
The idea behind the project was to transform a BMW into a canvas for couture inspiration by creating a bespoke suit of fabrics that features a complementary mix of materials including velvet and sequin-covered fabrics. “The sequinned fabric, with a matt surface reminiscent of the signature BMW frozen colours, is sourced from Swiss manufacturer Jakob Schlaepfer, renowned for supplying textiles to prestigious fashion houses such as Dior and Chanel”, BMW writes in the press release. The traditional St.Gallen company “is characterized by a combination of local culture and textile tradition with forward-looking designs”, as Jakob Schlaepfer states in a separate press release. The collaboration on the BMW XM MYSTIQUE ALLURE opens up “unimagined design possibilities and paves the way for the company to explore previously uncharted territories”, comments Fabio Di Silvio, Managing Director of Jakob Schlaepfer. ce/hs
