The new HeiQ Allergen Tech solution for reducing allergens in textiles has received an award at the Cologne Interzum trade fair. It is developed by technology company HeiQ, located in Schlieren in the canton of Zurich. According to a press release, the textile product Purotex+, produced by Belgian Waregem-based company BekaertDeslee and powered by the HeiQ solution, received the Interzum Award in the “High Product Quality” category. Purotex+ is used in mattress ticking.

According to the press release, the Interzum Award recognizes exceptional design and innovation in the furniture production industry. Purotex+ with HeiQ Allergen Tech was chosen for the award from a field of 280 submissions from 25 countries. The technology uses active probiotics to reduce exposure to allergens, and has received the Allergy UK Seal of Approval. According to Interzum’s website, tests conducted by BMA Labor (biological measurement and analysis laboratory) in Bochum have shown that Allergen Tech is highly effective in reducing exposure to inanimate allergens, such as house dust mite matter and pet allergens, with a reduction of 83.6 per cent for cat allergens, 76.5 per cent for dog allergens, and 96.6 per cent for house dust mite matter allergens.

Carlo Centonze, CEO of HeiQ, is quoted in the press release as saying: “This recognition highlights the importance of our mission to create innovative solutions that benefit consumers and the environment.” HeiQ is a spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH). It is based in IJZ, Schlieren’s center for innovation and start-ups, and is a member of Start Smart Schlieren. gba
