Lantal has been nominated for the Crystal Cabin Award 2022. The competition, which was started by the aviation cluster Hamburg Aviation, has recognized exceptional cabin concepts and products each year since 2007.
Lantal is competing against two other companies in the Sustainable Cabin category. Overall, winners are crowned in eight different categories, each with three nominees. The finalists present their concepts to the jury of 28 experts at the Aircraft Interiors Expo, with the winners then announced during a gala dinner in Hamburg on the evening of June 14.
The jury has nominated Lantal for its new product, a sustainable leather with an environmentally friendly tanning technique known as “wet-green”. Lantal is working with Tenerías Omega, a leather processor based in Villatuerta, around 140km south-east of Bilbao, in northern Spain. This holds the certificate from wet-green GmbH from Reutlingen in Baden-Württemberg, which authorized it as a selected contract tanning company for the production of olive leather. Instead of environmentally harmful chromium and petrol-based chemicals, an extract from the leaves of the olive tree is used in the manufacturing process of this product.
Lantal was founded in 1886 and employs over 400 people worldwide, with the textiles manufacturer having been working with the aviation industry for more than 60 years. Lantal describes itself as one of the world’s leading suppliers of complete solutions for aircraft interiors.
