Lantal, the textiles company from Langenthal in the canton of Bern, has claimed a victory in the Sustainable Cabin category at the Crystal Cabin Awards 2023. The Digital Deep Dyeing technology, which was only launched by Lantal in April this year and serves to aid the manufacturing process of digitally dyed aircraft carpets, impressed the jury comprising 28 industry experts.
The underlying Digital Deep Dyeing technology not only cuts water consumption by 60 percent and reduces waste by 80 percent in connection with production activities, but also enables the production of ultra-light carpets, further details of which can be found in a press release issued by the award organizer. This has a beneficial effect on the weight of the aircraft and therefore on its carbon footprint. As the family-owned company also highlights in its press release, this technology also maximizes the freedom of design and customization options compared with traditional yarn-dyeing processes.
Lantal sought to use the crisis of the past three years as an opportunity to increase its spending on research and development in a counter-cyclical manner. “Without this persistence, we would not be the global market leader in the sustainable production of aircraft carpets”, as CEO Urs Rickenbacher explains. After all, all parties involved benefit from the Digital Deep Dyeing technology: “Passengers can enjoy a more attractive cabin environment, airlines and OEMs achieve weight reductions and shortened lead times and, most importantly, the environment benefits from a huge reduction in ecological footprint”. ce/mm
