Founded in 1825, the textiles firm Weisbrod-Zürrer AG from Hausen am Albis in the canton of Zurich has been offering silk ties, manufactured using materials sourced from Swiss farms, since 2004. Unfortunately, ever since the financial crisis, the tie has become something of a niche product, explains Weisbrod-Zürrer in a press release. Now, however, in collaboration with VUP Fashion AG from Hombrechtikon, also in the canton of Zurich, Weisbrod-Zürrer is seeking to resurrect the tie, which has fallen out of fashion, as a fashionable unisex accessory.
To achieve this, the “amazingly beautiful” but unsold silk products are sewn into what are known as VUPs at Swiss textile studios, as Weisbrod-Zürrer explains. The accessories designed by Evelin Stefano from VUP Fashion AG can be worn as a scarf, a twilly, a tie or even “something completely different”. The VUPs will be available to buy from November 6, just in time to mark the three-year anniversary of VUP Fashion AG. ce/hs
