HeiQ Materials AG from Schlieren in the canton of Zurich has signed an agreement to acquire all of the shares in the British company Tarn-Pure Holdings Ltd, which is headquartered in the Welsh capital of Cardiff. Following the takeover, critical EU and UK registrations will be transferred to HeiQ to sell metallic copper and metallic silver for use in hygiene applications, further details of which can be found in a press release. This rounds off the HeiQ range of hygiene solutions, which previously consisted of plant-based antimicrobial agents and probiotic cleaners.
The COVID-19 pandemic triggered enormous growth in the area of hygiene products, which HeiQ played a part in with its proprietary HeiQ Viroblock technology, the press release explains. With the pandemic now fading into the background somewhat, the market is once again turning its attention towards sustainable hygiene products. To complement its existing range, HeiQ is now also investing in nature’s own ready-to-use hygiene materials: copper and silver.
“The HeiQ Group already has Europe’s most sustainable offering of hygiene technologies featuring probiotic cleaners, botanical antimicrobials, and bio-based biocides. With the addition of Tarn-Pure’s intellectual property for metallic copper and metallic silver, HeiQ becomes the industry’s go-to supplier for sustainable hygiene technologies”, explains Tom Ellefsen, CEO of HeiQ Life, in the press release.
According to HeiQ, the European Union is gradually phasing out several synthetic biocides such as zinc pyrithione, silver nitrate and silver chloride. The expectation on the market is therefore of strong growth in the use of the safe and effective antimicrobials copper and silver. They are used in coatings, plastics, textiles and in water treatment. With the takeover of Tarn-Pure, HeiQ is positioning itself as the primary supplier of copper and silver for the hygiene industry as a whole. gba
