The Barryvox S2 from Mammut is designed to enhance the avalanche safety of ski tourers and freeriders. The avalanche transceiver should offer more efficient and precise support in comparison with its predecessor models when it comes to locating people buried in the snow following an avalanche, according to a press release issued by the outdoor specialist based in Seon in the canton of Aargau, Switzerland. “We have developed an avalanche transceiver that not only guarantees personal safety at the highest level but also optimizes search performance with reliable support”, comments Alexander Weijnman, Head of Avalanche Safety at Mammut.

According to the information, the Barryvox S2 is the smallest avalanche transceiver available on the market. At the same time, the three-antenna device maintains a search strip width of 70 meters, which was also the case for both predecessor models. Mammut describes the memory-in-pixel display as one of the most outstanding innovations in this latest version of the device. It ensures excellent readability even in direct sunlight and when used with polarized glasses. In addition, the energy-efficient screen extends the battery life.

Another innovation is the intelligent fine search guidance, Mammut states. This uses an algorithm that calculates the shortest route to the buried person and visually guides the rescuer. Acoustic signals also help with this. In addition, the probing indication also shows the burial depth. The Interference Guard detects signal interference and either boosts the transmission strength or reduces the signals from active sources of interference. ce/mm
