Balgach/Zurich - Rohner AG is expanding the retail space located at its company headquarters in Balgach as part of a project that is expected to be completed by September 2026. The focus here will not only be on showcasing the company’s own socks; the new retail space is intended as a place of emotion, experience and exchange. The shop-in-shop concept incorporates other brands.

(CONNECT) Rohner is redeveloping its retail space in Balgach in the canton of St.Gallen. According to CEO Hermann Lion, the location is to be expanded with the addition of new retail space and is set to be opened in September 2026. The aim here is reportedly to create a location that “brings brands and people together” as well as a location that “inspires, surprises and shows that modern retail is far more than just sales”.

In so doing, the traditional company, whose history dates back to its founding in 1873, is responding to its perception that people “are shopping more consciously again and seeking genuine contact – after years in which so much has become digitalized”, as Lion explaines in response to an inquiry. “There is only a future in physical retail if it can offer something above and beyond simply a transaction”. In this vein, the textile company "is investing specifically in a concept that combines experience, top quality and interaction. It is a statement for the strength of physical retail – and for our region”.

The new sales area has been designed by the Zurich-based architect’s office Susanne Fritz Architekten: “Clear lines. Natural materials. Light that tells stories”, as Lion explains. Susanne Fritz previously renovated and expanded the entire building complex in Balgach in order to put it to new use. This involved modernizing and architecturally redesigning the entire brand identity of Rohner AG, comprising the existing retail space. “Despite the lower density of the racks, the turnover per square meter has been increased”, says a profile of the renovation.

According to Lion, the new retail space which now is under construction will offer something that “we haven't seen before in our region”. Various brands will be showcased together at this location: plans include shop-in-shop concepts for other textile brands, as well as for accessories, lifestyle products, outdoor gear and design brands. “For us, it is important that our partners – irrespective of whether they are a local manufacturer or an international brand with a distinct positioning – can tell a story and fit into the overall experience”. ce/mm
